I love the St. Francis statue and your accompanying verse. This St. Francis seems to represent the core of his kindness and love for animals. He need not be in cast in bronze, wakened from marble or granite, created of pottery in a mold.
The St. Francis statue at the local church is small and made of bronze — he holds a small bird bath in one hand and a bird in the other. Unfortunately this statue is neglected. St. Anthony is the patron saint of this church. I keep meaning to go and add water or seed to his tray, wash away the dirt and dust, and plant a flower or two at his feet. Tomorrow, I will definitely go and help him send his message of love and kindness.
What a lovely gesture!!
Totally gorgeous! Late visit from Ruby Tuesday.
Red Baron is my entry, hope you can still peek and leave a comment. Thanks.
I’ve been to Chimayo – in fact, I have a photo of the church on a kitchen ledge – but I don’t remember St. Francis. Perhaps he wasn’t there – at least in this incarnation – as it’s been twenty years or more since I was there. It’s a wonderful photo, and reminds me of the blessings of the animals I’ve experienced.
This was not taken at the Sanctuario, but at an art studio nearby … we stopped after we had been to the church and grounds. However, Mellow Yellow Monday – 25 is on the grounds of the church!
one of my favorites: the saint, the poem, and the statue
Being the bird lover and “critter” lover that I am, St. Francis continues to be my favorite saint. Love this particular image of him–so light-hearted and joyful and embracing!
fabulous statuary…very unique…we all need a patron saint, espec. the animals…
Nice one. Thank’s for sharing!
Visiting for Ruby Tuesday 2- hope you can stop by..
