Haunting and tired.
Wow. That “feels” so desolate.
I still remember driving back after Rita, looking at all those trees with half their branches gone and all the blue tarps. Just east of 146, they finally began to thin out, and it hit me just how close we had come to having Rita pay a call.
Great photo. And you’re right about the cypress. They’re survivors.
Becca, when I saw this picture, I thought, “How lovely and mysterious,” and then I read the caption and felt bad. It was like the time when I was a kid, on the phone with a friend and catching snippets of a newsflash, high waters pouring through a street. “Awesome!” I said to my friend. “It’s not awesome! It’s a flood!” my parents yelled at me. I felt horrible. How did I know? I wasn’t listening to the news. All I saw was glorious, powerful water.
Don’t feel bad … our beloved cypress are indeed lovely and hauntingly mysterious … very resilient! Their roots are as deep as their height. This allows them to withstand high winds much better than most!
Like artists, eh?
