Thomas Hopkins Givens, MD

Thrived on little sleep
Thousands babies delivered
Always full of joy

High demands on time
Patients counted on him
We had his full heart

Stitches, casts, broken hearts
Listening ear, tender spirit
Servant’s heart

Diagnostician
Acute or chronic, unfazed
Stayed till crisis end

Priority care
Each concern never ceasing
Vanishing doctor

Twinkling eyes of blue
Humble, quiet and doting
Fan of junkie food

Champion of youth
Gardener and chef
Community inspiration

Loved by all kinfolks
Doctor for generations
Beaming daughter proud

They called him “Doc”
I called him “my Daddy”
God called him home!

Yes, one of those rare kind, who still made “house calls” and accepted bartering even in these modern times! We enjoyed many goodies from gardens and the Gulf as payment. 😉

Thank you … he is indeed remembered with pride and love, as well as missed! There is a void – but this expression eased it without me initially realizing it … like it had to be written … appreciate your visit and comment!

aww I was just telling mom how we used to go into the office on Saturdays when he was watching us so he could see patients. We had our play doctor’s bag and he let us use an empty patient’s room so we could pretend.. Poor Jane.. always diagnosed with something bad.. hahahah. He truly loved life. 🙂
