Once crinkly blue eyes,
Emanating a lifetime of unconditional love, laughter and wisdom,
Altered and occupied
with the stark gray of intense penetrating pain and frenzied panic
~~~~
Crying out my pet name
for assistance and deliverance,
before plunging into depths of the unknown
~~~~
Lifetime roles reversed
in the flash of an instant,
Forevermore changing
~~~~
Heart heaved and gut wrenched
with blatant recognition
of no turning back
~~~~
Grateful now –
for emancipation from pain’s bondage
~~~~
Knowing, expecting, anticipating, acknowledging –
does not make the transition any easier
~~~~
There is no replacement for this first love!

The best poetry is from the heart. And this obviously is.

It started out as an idea for a Haiku … short! But the prompts as I was trying to go to sleep – kept me turning on and off the lights at bedtime, to jot a thought for the morning prompt to remember … until I finally said “OK!” I stayed up to complete … it is harder for me to read than it was for me to write! Go figure … so yes, it is indeed from the heart and elsewhere … hope it is a freedom therapy for others!
