First Love

Once crinkly blue eyes,

Emanating a lifetime of unconditional love, laughter and wisdom,

Altered and occupied

with the stark gray of intense penetrating pain and frenzied panic

~~~~
Crying out my pet name
for assistance and deliverance,
before plunging into depths of the unknown
~~~~

Lifetime roles reversed

in the flash of an instant,

Forevermore changing

~~~~
Heart heaved and gut wrenched
with blatant recognition
of no turning back
~~~~

Grateful now –

for emancipation from pain’s bondage

~~~~
Knowing, expecting, anticipating, acknowledging –
does not make the transition any easier
~~~~

There is no replacement for this first love!

  7. Life is a strange thing sometimes. These times when the one who cared for you becomes the cared for are one of the strangest, and hardest to deal with.
    Wonderfully sad and painful write that ends on a comforting, encouraging note. Nicely done, Becca!
