Today is Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras Day!

    My husband and his family come from a Catholic tradition — his brother and wife give up wine for lent very year. As a child, hubby usually gave up things like chocolate or some other food he liked.
    As a child growing up, we didn’t observe lent, but always ate pancakes on shrove (pancake) tuesday.
    I really respect those who embrace spiritually and include lent in their practice. I will enjoy following you on your journey.

    Becca, Fabulous idea. As a Catholic, I am quite compelled to join in with you as long as short term memory doesn’t kick in, lol! I think I will do okay though. Blessings, Terri

      My thoughts exactly, Terri … short term memory will be my greatest challenge to follow through! 😀 First, I must scout out some King Cake before the night’s end!!

          I am from South Louisiana … so King Cake is a big deal to the taste buds! 😀 King Cake is a tradition during the Mardi Gras season celebration … from Little Epiphany (Twelfth Night) through Fat Tuesday, which is Mardi Gras Day = Today! It now comes in a variety of variations, but started out cinnamon based. YUM! The shortened version of the story! LOL

      Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter. In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks the first day, or the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count).
      Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ – his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection.
