Pitch dark woods,
emit daunting
sounds and movements
raising all hair
on my arms and neck.
My heart sprints
as my breath catches.
What direction
dare I run?
Guardians,
can you see me?

Thursday Poets Rally Week 65
(April 5-April 11, 2012)
______________________________________________
This is my first entry in the Trifecta Writing Challenge.
Each Friday, at 10:00 am Eastern Time a weekend challenge will be posted on our main page. Each week there will be a different challenge, with different rules. All challenges will be based, somehow, on the number three. This will be a lightening fast challenge that will close on Sunday at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. All entries will be read carefully by the editors. The top three entries will be mentioned on the following week’s Monday blog post, and the best-written response will be posted in its entirety on the site.
Here are the rules for Week 8:
“This weekend’s challenge is to write a story entitled ‘Lost’ in exactly 33 words. The word ‘lost’ can only appear in the title, not your 33 words. Any reference to the TV show could result in another visit to see the editors in the Trifecta offices.”
I don’t know where the Trifecta offices are located — but I’d rather not find out!! 😀

I like this piece a lot … even before I read about Trifecta. You know … it would even do for “Sunday Tree.” (((hugs))).

Very clever response to the prompt. I also read it the same way Janna did — being lost can have so many aspects –physically lost is perhaps the first thing that jumps to mind, but ‘lost’ can also describe that elusive search for that ‘something’ in our lives. You captured both beautifully. Thanks for linking up.

I felt like she was stalked, and like she had no way of knowing if whoever found her would be a savior or the person hunting her.

I like the last line best. It’s desperate but, in the slightest way, hopeful. I should go back and see if you’ve written about the Guardians before.

This is really good. It makes sense in a literal sense (actually lost in a dark place) and the figurative sense (lost in life and looking for God (or if you don’t believe in God – someone) to save us.

It is layered to take both ways — Janna. Thank you for your response and feedback. I appreciate it.

Becca, I certainly think this poem of 33 words should be the winner of that “lost” challenge! Wow, you sure had me with goose bumps and looking for a lightning bug to show me the way OUT of those dark woods!
