Skies’ Canvas

This is my 2nd attempt at writing an Elfje.

The Elfje form originated in The Netherlands.  It is a form used to teach young children to write poetry.  The word Elfje means ‘Elven’ or ‘Fairy’ poem (from ‘Elf’ meaning ‘elven’ or ’fairy’ and the suffix ‘- je’ meaning ‘little’ ).

The form consists of 11 words spread over 5 lines.

You may have noticed I’m back in time…8/23/2011 was the first time I saved a haiku of yours, and I remembered that you were the first person to write and post an elfje that I was aware of…and I found them so difficult to figure out how to write…
For the journal you sent me, I have been working on creating a keepsake for myself, and someday maybe my daughter will want it …. I remember her looking for my father’s writings and we couldn’t find them. I have only one he shared with me.
I thought it would be nice…at least for me, to start with a couple of your poems….and then continue with some of mine that I feel are meaningful, or told by someone that they were well written ( I think I have 3 of those) and favorites from you and others that I come across, to keep all in one place.

The journal is never far from my sight, and I think of your kindness sending it always.

    Peace and love,

I used “cerulean” in a poem once – I’ve never seen anyone else use it, but it’s the most beautiful ever to describe the skies!
