Twinkle of Appreciation

fragrant tea
in
hot pottered mug

______________________________________________

I like the simple ritual of wrapping my hands around a hot hand-thrown pottered mug.  There is something comforting to me about this simple gesture.  I enjoy the rising fragrance while sipping.  In addition, I believe, my “cuppa”  seems to taste better, and stay hot longer. 🙂

Many years ago, I started a tradition of hunting for pottery places while traveling.  My hunt is to
discover new treasure for Ray and me in the form of a pair of pottered mugs.  They must be
similar, yet have at least one distinguishing difference … after all, I want to know which one is
Ray’s and which one is mine.

Among the characteristics I feel important in my consideration are:
1) the weight of the mug as I hold it in my hand,  2) the shape of the mug and the handle,
3) whether the opening is straight, curved inward or outward,  4) the type of glaze,  5) whether its
satin or shiny,  6) the color and  7) quantity it will hold.   Sometimes the pair simply “catches
my fancy”!

Whether for our morning or afternoon rituals – we always use the similar pair.  😀

So wonderful to collect those special mugs. Various family members know how much I love good coffee and good herbal teas and present me with special mugs! I appreciate very much your own love of collecting special mugs.

A friend gave me a mug from Tim Horton’s (A coffee house chain) that I love. It’s such a fit for me for all the reasons you sited. I have a small ceramic bowl that sits on top of the cup perfectly. It graces the mug in the winter to keep my tea or coffee hot as I work at my desk.

  3. It looks like we have a love of handthrown pottery in common. They are the first crafters I gravitate towards as soon as I reach the art fairs. The impraint of their fingers inside or out leaves their love of what they do. We will have to post pix’s of some of our great finds.

  5. I feel the same way about my “mug” of coffee, it has to have the right texture, the right texture for my lip, the right thickness, color, shape…lovely images, Becca. Laurie

How wonderful…and meaningful:…. your special attention to
