This is the childhood home of my dad. I do not know the year it was built.
The house remained within the family of 10 children via my dad’s older sister. She and her husband bought it. She lived in it until she could no longer live on her own; at which point it was sold. 😦 There are many memories attached to this house.
Every few years, after visiting “home”, I stop to witness the changes in the house, garden and the trees. The trees have grown considerably since I was young. I could not photograph a clear photo of the house, without opening the front gate.
The house is registered with National Historic Society.

How beautiful x how old is that tree do you think? It looks so old and gnarled ~ if only it could tell its story!

I have no idea — but based on the size of our 100+ old live oaks in our yard — they are up there with age. Oh yes, what wonderful stories they could tell. 😀

We had a live oak much like this at the old Southern colonial farmhouse I grew up in. How wonderful that this Givens old family home is preserved on the Historic Register!

What a beautiful home. I’m curious – does it seem smaller to you now than when you were a child? When I went back to Iowa last year, the house I lived in while in junior high and high school seemed very much the same. But that first house, from my grade school years, seemed to have shrunk!

Well, I couldn’t get any closer than the photos, but from the looks on the side of the house, it is as I remember it … it had quite large rooms downstairs, and fairly large ones upstairs as well. I wish I had asked my dad what he thought of it before he passed. 😦

What a wonderful memory to have of such a grand home. The tree in this photo seems to want to pull up roots and go for a stroll. Awesome.
