When I first saw this photo, I thought—OH WOW! That’s one hungry looking tree. Come too close and it might swallow me up. (I totally didn’t see the protection aspect of it until I read your poem. 😉
Interesting, such different reactions to the same object! Obviously, I need some rest and relaxation!

I spent the weekend in this area for a retreat — this tree went unnoticed by me until I started walking in a different direction to explore. Lo and behold, it presented itself.
