Growing up in south Louisiana, I have only seen cypress knees next to the cypress trees in water. I have not seen any on those trees on land … so imagine my surprise to find these in Central TX … surprised to find cypress and even more so to trip over the knees. Initially, the thought of them being knees, never crossed my mind … so I asked the owner; once she answered I had to go back and look at them again “in a different light”. I was on a retreat — and this was a special connection for me. 😀

These are cypress knees — they grow up around cypress trees — thought to help with oxygenation of the cypress. The strange thing for me (until I stumbled upon these) – I had never seen them out of water as these are.
