34,333 Sunrises

24,525 weekdays and 9,808 weekend days

4,904 weeks and 5 days

Today, my siblings and I are witnessing an extraordinary miracle of celebrating my mom’s 94th Birthday!!  It is phenomenal!  Sixteen (16) months ago, she was diagnosed with end-stage cancer.  She was not given 4 months; meaning she was not suppose to make it to her 93rd, much less 94th celebration of birth.

We are blessed to still have her with us.  Although, the last year ravaged her body, she remains in good spirits and young at heart.   Since the Lord is not ready for her, evidently she still has “work to do”!

Happy Birthday, Momma!!

      • So happy to know your Mother is still with you. I’ve been spending several days a week with my aging parents this summer, and have come to appreciate each of them in a completely new way. It is “being in the moment” which opens the door to this new relationship. Best wishes, E

New eyes open when we realize they are no longer immortal; when their physical and mental actions are slower … when the parent becomes more of the child, and the child has to assume some variation of the parent … yet still respect their original role. It’s a challenge to witness. Enjoy and continue appreciating your parents. 🙂

          • That is an excellent description of it. A tough spot to negotiate, especially when one realizes the memory and reasoning issues creeping in for these once talented and stalwart (and much loved and respected) adults… 😉

And a happy belated birthday to your Mom! It’s just wonderful that she’s still with you. There’s no question that the love you all have surrounded her with has played a role — perhaps the biggest role — in keeping her spirit young and alive.

I love that first photo of her. I can see that little girl in her face even today — and in yours, too!

  4. Aawwww … soooo very sweet. I LOVE this post as I think your Mother will too.
Tearfully, I read and looked at every photo. It is very touching.
I’m pleased she has been able to enjoy many more years than originally thought.
It’s truly a BLESSINGS. May your Mother continue to enjoy the wonders of the very special daughter she created with her cherished heart paints. 😍
    Happy Happy Birthday !!!! ❤

Happy Birthday to your Mom. If my mom were alive, she would have been 94 on July 3. She died when she was 45. I envy you having your mom in your life all these years. Whatever time is left for her, I hope she lives it in light and love. The poem was excellent. Hugs, janetr

Thank you, Janet. I know we are fortunate to have her still with us, while so many friends no longer have their own — many for many years. I feel sad for you/them while I still have my own — albeit not for much longer. Thank you for the wishes. 😀
