What is Nurturing Thursday, you ask?

In this amazingly competitive society of ours, how many of us truly feel good about ourselves? How often do we extend to ourselves … the same courtesies, considerations, nurturing, forgiveness and understanding we would a loved one, a friend, or even a stranger?

Our culture tells us we need to be special and above average to feel good about ourselves. Yet, it is not possible for all of us to be above average at the same time. Don’t we usually know of someone richer, more attractive, “more together” or successful than we are? Even if we discount the material aspects and consider the more spiritual facet, don’t we know of those who seem more at peace, more aware or living in the moment. Even when we do manage to feel a strong sense of self-esteem or self-confidence, we are not able to consistently hold on to it. For most, our sense of self-worth bounces around like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling strongly tied with our latest success or failure.

In an effort to eliminate labeling ourselves as “good” or “bad”, and clearly accept ourselves with an open heart … to treat ourselves with the same kindness, caring, and compassion we would show to a good friend … I would like to incorporate more self-compassion and self-kindness in my life.

To “give this planet a much needed shot of fun, support and positive energy” … I am dubbing Thursdays as Nurturing Thursday.

If any of my readers are interested in joining the nurturing, I applaud and welcome you to do so … the more the merrier!!

So true, Becca! What is past is past and there isn’t any use dwelling on it. Take away whatever lessons you may have learned from your experiences, both good and bad, and move forward. Great quote!

This, Grace, is as much a reminder for me as for others. Those triggers can be so sneaky at times — but they are in the past and serve no purpose with the now — except to assist us as experience!!

  4. Hi Becca,
I posted on Wednesday because I have to go with my energy level. Hope you enjoy. Ironically, we are channeling the same thing … Who are we now … not the past … but right now.
I hope you enjoy the video I posted. It speaks to Who You Really Are !!!!
    Izzy 🙏

Hi Becca, it’s not always easy when something in the present triggers those old bad memories, but you are quite right about needing to remind ourselves it’s in the past! Here’s my link:

You are so correct, Meg … those triggers can be so sneaky! I have to remind myself frequently …the past is PAST and serves no purpose for our present, except the experience to learn from. Such tough lessons — sometimes/most times!! 😀

I may have mentioned to you (I told someone, but who knows who it was?) that I used to worship with a congregation where the blessing at the end of service was, “The past is absolved; the future is open.” Different context, different words, but the same reality. Happy day!

Hi Becca, it’s not easy to forget the past, it is always knocking on our door, but we need to be strong and keep the door closed. Here is my link. have a great day!

    • becca givens says:

You are absolutely correct, Elizabeth — it is more often than not, difficult to keep the door permanently closed … personally, I look forward to the day, the door remains padlocked and/or totally unnoticed.

I like the first image, and the thought it shares, and I believe in it too 🙂

Ahhh, Becca, as someone who has spent years working through the darkness of the past, this really resonates…
I’m pleased to say, though, I am getting so much better as living in the light 🙂
